Startling Discovery: Missing Person Case Takes a Sinister Turn

The charges were initially dropped, but an Illinois appeals court reversed that decision, leading to her arrest. The accused, Marcy Oglesby, 51, is believed to have poisoned Richard Young, a retired police chief, with a toxic substance. Responding to a repulsive odor emanating from a storage unit in Knox County, authorities made a startling discovery. Inside the unit, officers found a box partly covered with a blanket and surrounded by cat litter. Initially, Oglesby claimed the smell was due to old clothes and a deceased possum. However, after being pressed, she confessed to the presence of a body within the box, wrapped partially in plastic and dressed in a flannel shirt. The victim, Richard Young, 71, had been in a relationship with the accused at the time of his death. Oglesby allegedly used eyedrops and an antidepressant medication to poison Young's food and drink, resulting in his demise between October and December of the previous year. Shockingly, the body had been concealed in the storage unit for almost a year. Oglesby initially claimed that Young had passed away from COVID-19 at their residence, but subsequent investigations disproved her story. Witness statements and the discovery of discarded eye drop bottles at various locations strengthened the suspicion that she had planned to poison Young. The witness elaborated on how the eyedrops were administered in both food and drink, revealing a shared desire to remove Young from their home. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for January 8, 2024, in Knox County Court, where further legal proceedings will take place. Oglesby is currently released on pretrial conditions.
