SUV Carrying Aides to Claudia Sheinbaum in Fatal Highway Accident

A fatal highway accident involving aides to Mexico's president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum left one dead, but Sheinbaum was unharmed in the incident.

A tragic highway accident on Friday resulted in at least one fatality when an SUV carrying aides to President-Elect Claudia Sheinbaum was involved in a collision. Thankfully, Sheinbaum herself was unharmed.

According to Sheinbaum’s spokesman, the advance car collided with another vehicle on a highway in the northern state of Coahuila, resulting in the death of one person in the other car. Additionally, several of Sheinbaum's aides sustained injuries in the crash.

Sheinbaum’s Safety and Victory

Sheinbaum was traveling in a separate vehicle, far behind the advance car, and remained unharmed. Although she has not been officially declared president-elect, her significant victory in the June 2 elections is expected to lead to a formal declaration soon.

The accident occurred near the city of Monclova, Coahuila, close to where Sheinbaum was scheduled to join President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on her first post-election tour. The tour aimed to observe the ongoing efforts to recover the remains of 63 miners who lost their lives in a 2006 coal mine accident. Recent reports indicate that some of the miners’ remains have been found at the Pasta de Conchos mine, situated approximately 85 miles (140 kilometers) north of Monclova.

Political Affiliation and Recovery Efforts

Sheinbaum is a member of López Obrador's Morena party. While López Obrador has focused on touring federal projects in various states during his weekends, Sheinbaum's political career has predominantly centered on Mexico City. Both Sheinbaum and López Obrador later arrived and addressed a meeting near the old mine, where the ongoing recovery efforts are taking place.
