Swedish Authorities Investigate Gross Sabotage of Undersea Communications Cable in Baltic Sea
Swedish authorities apprehended a ship linked to alleged sabotage of an undersea communications cable in the Baltic Sea, prompting an investigation.

On Monday, Swedish authorities intercepted a vessel linked to a significant act of “gross sabotage” that caused damage to an undersea communications cable in the Baltic Sea the previous day. The ship was escorted to the Swedish coast for further investigation, according to official statements.
Suspected Serious Act of Sabotage
Mats Ljungqvist, the Swedish prosecutor heading the investigation, confirmed the suspicion of a serious act of sabotage in the Swedish economic zone on Sunday, during a phone interview. However, they have yet to disclose the specific nature or extent of the damage to the communications cable that links Sweden and Latvia.
Rising Concerns in the Baltic Sea
This incident aligns with a series of suspected sabotage attempts on undersea cables in the Baltic Sea, a region that has increasingly become a focal point for potential hybrid warfare involving NATO and Russia.
