Teamsters' Political Committee Makes Unprecedented $45,000 Donation to Republican National Committee Amidst Party Divide

According to federal records, the Teamsters' political committee donated $45,000 to the Republican National Committee, a significant shift for the labor group, which has normally supported Democrats, including President Biden. The RNC, facing fundraising difficulties, received the maximum allowable contribution from the union’s PAC following meetings with former president Donald Trump. 

The Teamsters also donated $30,000 to the Democratic National Committee. Neither the Teamsters nor the RNC immediately responded to a request for comment. The union's donation to the RNC highlights tensions within labor unions, which have benefited from Biden's policies while Trump remains popular among many rank-and-file union members, particularly in key battleground states. Despite Trump's meetings with Teamsters leadership and attempts to secure the union's endorsement, the union emphasized the positive impact of the Biden administration on unions. However, the union's interactions with Trump and the GOP have faced criticism from its progressive wing.
