Teen Suspected in Multi-State Crime Spree Charged with Murder in Highway Collision, Oklahoma Police Say

A 17-year-old in a stolen car led police on a chase, resulting in a fatal crash that killed a military veteran and injured her mother.

A 17-year-old boy became the center of a cross-county chase that ended in tragedy, as he was involved in a fatal collision with a mother and her 23-year-old daughter on the highway. According to police reports from Oklahoma, the teen had stolen three vehicles within a span of 24 hours and expressed his willingness to take a life to steal a car.

The Beginning of the Chase

The high-speed pursuit commenced in Craig County on October 20 and extended into Roger's County, as deputies reported. The authorities eventually located the stolen vehicle, which had crashed in a ditch. Subsequently, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting the theft of a truck, containing a gun. Officers later spotted the teen speeding down a country road in the stolen truck.

Despite initially evading the stop sticks deployed by deputies, the teen punctured three tires when the sticks were used again. Undeterred, he continued driving over railroad tracks until he collided with a vehicle carrying the mother and daughter. Logan Harrell, a 23-year-old military veteran, tragically lost her life at the scene, according to official reports. Her mother sustained injuries and was promptly taken to the hospital.

Tribute to Logan Harrell

Logan Harrell, a military veteran, had served six months in Kuwait during her time in the army from 2019 to 2023. In addition to her military service, she pursued studies in elementary education and was actively involved in cheerleading at Rogers State College. Her obituary highlighted her love for family, shopping, wearing Crocs, and her dedication to teaching and assisting young cheerleaders in the area.

Legal Proceedings

On October 25, the 17-year-old was charged with murder, endangering others during an attempt to elude a police officer, larceny of an automobile, and other offenses. Notably, the teen's attorney information was not disclosed, and due to his status as a minor, McClatchy News refrained from naming the suspect.

A Crime Spree Across States

Reports revealed that the teen had embarked on a crime spree spanning across three states, attempting to make his way from Missouri to California. According to Sheriff Scott Walton, the suspect had completed a home invasion near Republic, Missouri, with intentions to harm the homeowner, a former mentor. The courts have scheduled the teen's appearance for October 31.
