Texas judge faces suspension for alleged new year's eve assault on family member

A Harris County, Texas criminal court judge, Frank Aguilar of the 228th District Court, has been suspended due to a "pending criminal matter" following allegations that he assaulted a family member on New Year’s Eve in Galveston.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct cited Rule 15A, which allows suspension of a judge upon indictment for a felony offense or a misdemeanor involving official misconduct.

Aguilar has been charged with assaulting a family member, allegedly punching a woman in the face and placing his foot on her neck after an argument. The judge has the right to a post-suspension hearing to defend his continued service.

Case related to police raid

Aguilar's district is handling prosecutions related to a police raid that resulted in the deaths of two innocent civilians, a case still pending trial after five years.
