Tiger Shark Caught Chasing Turtle Onto Beach in Incredible

A stunning scene unfolded at a Western Australia beach when a beachgoer captured extraordinary footage of an 8-foot tiger shark nearly beaching itself in pursuit of a turtle. The thrilling video, captured by Ruth Gaw, shows the shark swiftly swimming toward shore as the turtle manages to scuttle onto the sand just in time.

Close Encounter

"The turtle got away, and the shark didn’t stay much longer," said Gaw. "A large stingray also got chased in, but I had stopped recording when it happened." The shark came dangerously close to stranding itself before thrashing back into the water.

Location and Sightings

The incident took place at Monkey Mia, a renowned tourist spot known for its white-sand beaches and rich marine life. Gaw spotted the shark approaching while her husband Derek and son Arran were fishing for mackerel. The footage she captured shows the shark swimming beneath fishing lines, with the line draped over its back as it reached the shore.

Not long before the shark encounter, the family had been swimming in waist-deep water. Tiger sharks can grow to nearly 15 feet and are known to prey on turtles. These apex predators are considered dangerous and have been implicated in several human attacks.
