Tragedy Strikes Alaska Community with Deadly Landslide

A devastating landslide caused by heavy rain has resulted in three fatalities and the disappearance of three individuals in Wrangell, Alaska. The landslide, which occurred on Monday evening, ravaged homes and left a significant swath of destruction in its wake. The impact of the slide, which stretched over 137 meters wide, was intensified by a severe storm that battered the island community of Wrangell, home to 2,000 residents. The aftermath of the disaster included barren terrain, uprooted trees, and blocked access to numerous residences after debris covered roads and cut off power. Rescue efforts have led to the recovery of the remains of a young girl and two adults, while two children and one adult are still unaccounted for. Search operations, involving search dogs on the ground and coastal vessel searches, are ongoing to locate the missing individuals. The community's interim borough manager, Mason Villarma, emphasized the resilience and unity of Wrangell in times of crisis.
