Tragedy struck an amusement park in the city of Rajkot in the western state of Gujarat, India, on May 25, 2024, as a massive fire broke out, claiming the lives of at least 20 people, according to the local police.
The fire, which began at the park during a weekend when families and children were enjoying the school summer vacation, quickly spread throughout the premises. The park, known for its various attractions such as bowling, go-karting, and trampolines, was filled with visitors at the time of the incident.
Rescue Operation
Despite the efforts of the firefighters to bring the situation under control, the tragic event resulted in the loss of 20 lives. The rescue operation is ongoing as authorities continue to recover bodies from the site.
The amusement park, which is privately owned by Yuvraj Singh Solanki, has come under scrutiny, with the Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava announcing that the police would be filing a case of negligence against the owner. "We will be registering an offense for negligence and the deaths which have occurred. Further investigation will take place once we complete the rescue operation," Bhargava stated.
Government's Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his distress over the tragic incident, offering his thoughts and prayers for those affected. His message conveyed solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones and extended wishes for the swift recovery of the injured.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, as authorities seek to determine the circumstances that led to the devastating blaze.
