The tragic incident occurred in the city of Hathras, which is located in western Uttar Pradesh. According to Ashish Kumar, the district magistrate, the majority of the victims were women and children who appeared to have suffocated in the rush to leave the venue. Local authorities suggested that heat and overcrowding had led to the panic.
Authorities' Testimonies
Mr. Kumar stated, "Toward the end of the congregation, when devotees were leaving, this incident took place because of very high humidity." Umesh Kumar Tripathi, a medical officer in the neighboring district of Etah, mentioned that more victims were being brought to other hospitals for medical attention.
Condolences and Ongoing Medical Attention
The incident has led to a wave of condolences from both local and national authorities. Additionally, efforts to provide medical care to the injured individuals are ongoing, with more victims being taken to hospitals for treatment.
