Tragic Accident 13-Year-Old Iowa Boy Dies While Sledding

A 13-year-old Iowa boy tragically passed away after a sledding accident earlier this month. Adam McWherter succumbed to critical injuries sustained when he rode a sled downhill and veered into the path of an SUV on Buffalo Road in Anamosa. The incident occurred during a snowstorm that had canceled schools on Jan. 10. Despite efforts to warn him, Adam was unable to avoid the oncoming vehicle, suffering severe injuries as a result. He was rushed to the University of Iowa's Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Driver's Account and Investigation

The driver of the SUV stated that the boy became visible only moments before sliding into the road, and despite attempting to brake, was unable to stop in time. The incident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. This tragic event has deeply impacted the Anamosa community, located approximately 25 miles northeast of Cedar Rapids.
