Tragic Accident: New York Pediatrician Dies After Falling From Moving Vehicle
Dr. Monika I. Woroniecka died after falling from a moving vehicle while trying to close the door to their Airstream trailer.
On April 6, 2024, a tragic incident led to the death of Dr. Monika I. Woroniecka, a prominent children's allergy and immunology specialist with Stony Brook Medicine. The unfortunate event took place while the family was en route to an Airbnb in Cape Vincent, according to the New York State Police.
Dr. Woroniecka was traveling in a 2024 Airstream trailer down State Route 12E when the passenger door unexpectedly swung open, causing her to be "thrown" from the vehicle. Her oldest daughter, Helena, revealed that the family had stopped at a gas station to get ice cream shortly before the tragic incident occurred.
According to police reports, Helena stated that her mother was attempting to secure the passenger side door of the camper when the accident happened. She described being in the back of the camper when Dr. Woroniecka was ejected from the vehicle and struck her head on the roadside. Subsequently, she was transported to Samaritan Medical Center’s Emergency Room, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Originally from Poland, Dr. Woroniecka had been a dedicated professional at Stony Brook Medicine since the early 2000s. Her expertise in children's allergy and immunology drew Polish-speaking families from far distances.
