A young woman infamously referred to as a wild driver has been sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of her boyfriend and another passenger in a high-speed car collision. Mackenzie Shirilla, known as "hell on wheels," received two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life in an Ohio court on Monday. The incident occurred in July of last year when Shirilla, then 17 years old, crashed her Toyota Camry into a brick building without applying the brakes. The passengers, Dominic Russo, 20, and Davion Flanagan, 19, tragically lost their lives at the scene. The New York Post reported that marijuana and magic mushrooms were found in the vehicle. During the trial, Christine Russo, Dominic's mother, expressed the devastating effect on their families, stating that Mackenzie showed no mercy and robbed them of a future. Shirilla, in a statement before her sentencing, offered her apologies to the families and professed her lack of intent, expressing her desire to remember what had transpired. The presiding judge referred to Shirilla as "literal hell on wheels," highlighting her deliberate choice of a secluded time and unfamiliar route to carry out the fateful crash, as witnesses would be scarce. Prosecutors argued that the collision was an attempt to end her relationship with Russo, as Shirilla's behavior had become turbulent and threatening towards him. Davyne Flanagan, Davion's sister, pleaded with the judge for the longest possible sentence, citing Shirilla's tendency to take the easy way out. However, the judge opted for a sentence that allows the possibility of parole after 15 years, deeming it appropriate. The videos presented by the prosecution, which featured Shirilla attending a concert and celebrating Halloween after the accident, were countered by her mother's testimony, revealing her daughter's emotional distress and prolonged mourning. Shirilla was convicted on multiple charges, including murder, and will serve her sentence as a means of recompense for the tragedy she caused.
