A devastating fire at a nursing home in northern China has claimed the lives of 20 individuals, as confirmed by state media, prompting an investigation into the incident. The fire reportedly broke out at 9 p.m. local time on Tuesday in Chengde city, Hebei province, and claimed 20 lives within six hours.

In addition to the casualties, 19 uninjured individuals were subsequently transferred to a hospital for observation. Authorities are actively probing the cause of the fire, and it has been reported that a relevant person in charge of the facility has been taken in by police for questioning. In a separate incident in January, a fire at a food market in the Hebei city of Zhangjiakou resulted in eight fatalities and 15 injuries.
