A tragic incident occurred on Monday at a popular beach in Queensland, Australia, where a 17-year-old girl, Emma Thompson, lost her life due to a shark attack while swimming. The unfortunate event took place at Woorim Beach, located approximately 45 miles north of Brisbane.
Emergency Response and Fatal Injuries
Authorities reported that the teenager suffered “life-threatening upper body injuries” as a result of the shark bite. Despite the prompt response from paramedics, who rushed to provide treatment, Ms. Thompson succumbed to her injuries on the beach, as confirmed by the Queensland police.
Investigation and Safety Measures
The type of shark involved in the attack remains unidentified, and the beach has been temporarily closed for further investigation. The state’s aquatic rescue group, Surf Life Saving Queensland, informed the public about the closure through the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. In light of this incident, the Queensland Police will prepare a report for the coroner as part of the investigation.
