On the evening of July 4, 2024, a horrifying incident occurred in Manhattan, New York City, as a pickup truck crashed into a crowd at Corlears Hook Park in the Lower East Side, resulting in multiple casualties. The driver, identified as Daniel Hyden, 44, of New Jersey, was allegedly intoxicated and driving at high speed when the tragedy unfolded.
Daniel Hyden, a wellness advocate and substance abuse counselor, was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 pickup truck when he ran a stop sign, mounted a sidewalk, and collided with a group of people who were enjoying the Fourth of July celebrations at around 9 p.m. Tragically, the crash resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including Lucille Pinkney, 59, her son, Hernan Pinkney, 38, and an unidentified female. In addition, eight others, including an 11-year-old child, sustained injuries as a result of the incident.
Immediate Police Response
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers detected the presence of alcohol, prompting Hyden to be charged with three counts of driving while intoxicated with alcohol or drugs and one count of operating a vehicle without a license. Further charges are expected to be filed against him as the investigation progresses.
Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and utilized specialized equipment to rescue the victims trapped underneath the truck. Tragically, despite their valiant efforts, the lives of three individuals could not be saved.
