Trump and Putin Speak By Phone Amidst Ukraine Peace Talks

President Trump and Russian President Putin are discussing a potential peace deal for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in a high-stakes phone call on Tuesday morning as the United States attempts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine three years after Russia's invasion.

White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino confirmed that the call, which commenced at 10:00 a.m. EDT, was ongoing at 11:32 a.m. EDT via social media. "The call is going well and still in progress," Scavino wrote.

Negotiations and Ceasefire Proposals

On Monday, prior to the call, President Trump revealed that U.S. officials are having "very serious discussions" with Russia regarding "land that would be kept and lost." He emphasized the complexity of the negotiations, stating, "You're sort of creating the edge of a country."

Last week, delegates from the United States and Ukraine met in Saudi Arabia and proposed a 30-day ceasefire. While Putin indicated acceptance of the ceasefire idea in principle, he refrained from committing to a deal, asserting that further discussions were necessary.

Trump's Stance on Meeting with Putin

President Trump also expressed his desire to meet with Putin at some point, highlighting the importance of direct dialogue between the two leaders amidst the ongoing conflict.
