Trump calls on accused hip-hop artists at Bronx rally to court Black voters
Former President Trump rallied in the Bronx, showcasing support from hip-hop artists linked to gang violence, despite facing criminal charges.

On Thursday, in the Bronx, former President Donald J. Trump held a rally to showcase his support among Black and Hispanic voters. The event aimed to bolster his campaign and highlight his backing from these demographic groups.
Controversial Support
During the rally, two hip-hop artists, Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow, publicly expressed their support for Mr. Trump, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. These artists have been accused of involvement in violent gang warfare, partially fueled by their music.
Unconventional Remarks
After their expressions of support, Mr. Trump thanked the artists and even complimented Sheff G's jewel-encrusted grill. He expressed his desire to have similar dental adornments, which deviated from the typical discourse of a political event.
Omission of Legal Issues
Notably, Mr. Trump did not address the serious charges facing the two rappers: conspiracy to commit murder and weapons possession. This omission occurred despite his earlier emphasis on restoring law and order in New York City, denouncing urban crime, and highlighting his support for the police.
Unorthodox Outreach Efforts
It is unusual for presidential candidates to associate themselves with individuals accused of violent crimes. The joint appearance of Mr. Trump and the accused rappers, which was widely circulated on social media, is part of a series of unconventional efforts by Mr. Trump to appeal to Black voters, particularly Black men.
