Following the announcement, U.S. crude oil prices surged, with a notable increase of 1.13%, reaching $69.05 per barrel by 10:54 am ET. Similarly, the global benchmark Brent saw an increase of 1.01%, trading at $72.89 per barrel.
President Trump accused Venezuela of sending members of the gang Tren de Aragua to the U.S., designating Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration.
The tariff is anticipated to impact not only the oil and gas sector but also bilateral trade relations with any nation continuing to engage in commerce with Venezuela.
