Trump steps up strongman tactics, threatens impeachment amid pressure

Donald J. Trump has a history of wielding strong-arm threats as a campaign strategy, urging his 2016 rally attendees to chant “lock her up” regarding Hillary Clinton. As President, he consistently pressured the Department of Justice to investigate his political rivals. With the approach of November, the former president has intensified his declarations to utilize the governmental power to impose his will and intimidate those he perceives as adversaries. Following the Democratic Party's decision to replace President Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris as their 2024 nominee, Trump's poll lead diminished, leading to an expansion of his targets. He is laying the foundation to claim widespread voter fraud in the event of his loss, a tactic reminiscent of his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, now coupled with threats of prosecution.
