Amid increasing tensions, Ukraine has deployed reinforcements to its northern border in response to a recent attempted breach by Russian forces. The incursion put additional pressure on Ukrainian troops who were already thinly spread across a 600-mile front.
The Russian assaults commenced at approximately 5 a.m. on Friday, involving heavy shelling, aerial bombardments, and attempts by armored columns to breach the border at multiple points. However, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense reported that these attacks were successfully repelled, while battles of varying intensity continue.
President's Response
During a briefing in Kyiv with Slovak counterpart, Zuzana Caputova, President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed that the Russian forces encountered strong resistance from Ukrainian troops, brigades, and artillery. He described the situation as a fierce battle, emphasizing that they responded with fire.
