Ukraine to receive first F-16 fighters from Western allies in the coming months

Kyiv anticipates receiving F-16 fighter jets from Western allies in June-July to counter Russia's air superiority, with pilot training underway.

KYIV - The Ukrainian military is set to receive its first batch of F-16 fighter jets from its Western allies in the months of June and July, as revealed by a senior Ukrainian military official on Friday.

Ukraine has been actively pursuing U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets for over two years to bolster its defense against Russia's air superiority. The official did not specify which country would be providing the fighter jets, but Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium have all pledged to supply F-16s to Ukraine.

Preparation and Training Underway

According to Illya Yevlash, the air force spokesperson, Ukrainian pilots are currently undergoing training to operate these warplanes. The pilots and ground staff have been undergoing rigorous training with Ukraine's Western partners for several months.

As the Ukrainian military faces Russian advances in the eastern Donbas region and renewed assaults near Kharkiv, the addition of F-16 fighter jets is deemed crucial for enhancing the country's Air Force capabilities.

The arrival of the F-16 fighter jets is anticipated to mark a significant milestone in Ukraine's efforts to strengthen its defense against ongoing threats.
