Ukraine Uses New Long-Range Missiles Supplied by US to Strike Russian Forces

Last week, the United States covertly delivered an advanced long-range missile system to Ukraine. Following the delivery, Ukrainian forces wasted no time in utilizing the weapons to target a Russian military airfield in Crimea and Russian troops in the southeastern region of the country.

Previous Assistance and Upgraded Capability

Prior to this latest delivery, the United States had provided Ukraine with the Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), which were armed with cluster munitions capable of traveling up to 100 miles. However, Ukraine had expressed a strong interest in obtaining the extended-range version of this system, boasting a reach of approximately 190 miles.

Strategic Impact and Targets

The acquisition of these longer-range missiles has significantly bolstered Ukraine's striking ability, allowing them to target areas deeper within occupied Ukraine, including Crimea, a vital location for Russian air and ground forces, as well as supply nodes for Moscow's forces in the southeastern part of Ukraine.

Utilization of New Capabilities

Under the cover of darkness on Tuesday, Ukrainian forces employed the extended-range missiles to launch an attack on Russian troops in the port city of Berdiansk, situated on the Sea of Azov.

These actions come amid rising tensions in the region, with both the delivery of the advanced missile system and its swift deployment marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict.
