Ukrainian forces reduce Russian assault potential in Donetsk
Ukrainian forces have reduced Russian troops' attack potential in Donetsk, with ongoing tough battles, successful operations in Kursk, and capturing soldiers for prisoner exchanges.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy proclaimed on a Thursday night that Ukrainian forces have effectively lessened the possibility of Russian troops initiating attacks in the Donetsk region, an area highly active in the ongoing war that has persisted for more than 2.5 years
Reduction of Russian Assault Potential
In a video address, Zelenskiy revealed the concerted efforts of the military to strengthen the resilience of Ukrainian battle brigades. He reported, "At this time, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have managed to diminish the occupiers' assault potential in the Donetsk region," indicating a successful reduction in the capability of the Russian troops to mount offensives in the area.
Despite the apparent reduction in Russian assault potential, Zelenskiy described the situation in the Donetsk region as "critically difficult with tough battles every day," particularly near the cities of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. These areas are reportedly the hardest hit by the ongoing Russian attacks, highlighting the enduring challenges faced by Ukrainian forces in repelling adversary advances.
Distraction of Russian Resources
President Zelenskiy also noted that Ukraine's military operations in southern Russia's Kursk region, initiated the previous month, had successfully compelled the Russian military to divert resources away from the eastern front. This strategic maneuver demonstrates Ukraine's ability to influence the allocation of enemy forces, potentially alleviating pressure on its own front lines.
The president outlined that the capture of Russian troops had significantly bolstered Ukraine's "exchange fund" of prisoners of war, providing leverage for future bargaining and exchanges with Moscow. Furthermore, Zelenskiy affirmed that close to 40,000 Russian troops had been successfully diverted from the eastern front, emphasizing the ongoing progress of Ukraine's active measures in the conflict.
