US and European Allies Impose New Sanctions on Iranian Military Leaders and Weapon Makers
The US and European allies imposed new sanctions on Iran's military for attacking Israel, urging Israel to avoid escalating the conflict.

On Thursday, April 18, the United States and European allies came together to announce a series of new sanctions against Iranian military leaders and weapon makers. This move was a response to Iran's recent missile and drone attack on Israel. The international community expressed concerns over the escalating tensions and urged Israel to exercise restraint in its response to avoid further escalation.
The sanctions specifically targeted leaders and entities associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Iran's Defense Ministry and the Iranian government's missile and drone programs. Additionally, the measures aimed to hinder Iran's steel industry exports, which reportedly generate billions of dollars in revenue for Tehran.
Statements from World Leaders
In response to the sanctions, President Biden affirmed the United States' commitment to Israel's security and stated that the Department of the Treasury would continue imposing sanctions to weaken Iran's military industries. Meanwhile, Britain announced that it had imposed sanctions on seven individuals and six entities linked to Iran's regional military activities. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned Iran's actions as a "reckless act and a dangerous escalation," emphasizing the joint condemnation with the U.S. and the impact of the sanctions on limiting Iran's destabilizing capabilities in the region.
