Mother lioness sacrifices meal to save cub from hyenas' attack

A heartwarming scene unfolded in South Africa's Kruger National Park as a mother lioness made a brave sacrifice to protect her cub from a hungry clan of hyenas.

The tension began when the hyenas surrounded the tree where the lioness and her cubs were enjoying a meal. Amid the chaos, one of the cubs leaped from the safety of the tree and found itself encircled by the menacing hyenas. Fortunately, the mother lioness instinctively recognized the danger and dropped the carcass from the tree, descending to confront the predators. Her courageous act diverted the attention of the hyenas, allowing the cub to escape unharmed.

This remarkable moment, witnessed by guide Benji Solms at the Serondella Game Lodge, showcases the incredible bond and protective instincts of these majestic animals. Such displays of maternal bravery remind us of the astonishing feats of courage and sacrifice found in the animal kingdom.
