Wisconsin Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Teen's Killing and Stabbings at River Tubing Spot

A 54-year-old man, Nicolae Miu, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing a teenager and stabbing four others in Wisconsin.

A man from Prior Lake, Minn., named Nicolae Miu, 54, has been given a 20-year prison sentence by a Wisconsin judge for the killing of a teenager and the stabbing of four others at a river tubing location two years prior.

Conviction Details

Miu was charged in 2022 with first-degree intentional homicide for the killing of 17-year-old Isaac Schuman of Stillwater, Minn., and four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety for the stabbings of four individuals accompanying Schuman. In April, he was found guilty on all charges.

Sentencing and Future Supervision

During the sentencing, which took place the day following the second anniversary of the stabbing (July 30, 2022), Miu, clad in an orange jumpsuit, remained bowed as Judge R. Michael Waterman of the St. Croix County District Court delivered the 20-year prison term. Additionally, it was specified that upon his release from prison, Miu, who has been incarcerated since 2022, will be placed on six years of extended supervision.

Incident

The criminal complaint, filed in St. Croix County, depicted a chaotic and violent scene in which Miu brandished a knife at a group of young people during a confrontation on the Apple River, a tributary to the St. Croix River in Wisconsin, known for its popularity with tubers and campers from the nearby Minneapolis area.
