Anasilvia Gomez-Zamora, 30, was taken into custody following an incident where a red liquid was thrown onto Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade during a campaign visit to Phoenix. The event occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday near 7th Street and Southern Avenue. Gomez-Zamora was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment, and resisting arrest.
Details of the Incident
According to the Phoenix Police, the woman was standing on a sidewalk near the motorcade's route when she threw the red liquid, which landed on eight Phoenix Police officers on motorcycles. Despite the disruption, the motorcade was able to continue as the officers progressed through their route. Authorities in the area swiftly located and apprehended Gomez-Zamora.
The liquid was later confirmed to be non-hazardous, as revealed by police investigations.
Visit Purpose
On the day of the incident, Vice President Kamala Harris was in Phoenix as part of her "Fight for Reproductive Freedoms" tour, advocating for abortion access for women in the U.S. This marked her fourth trip to Arizona in her role as vice president.
Legal Proceedings
Gomez-Zamora was booked into Maricopa County jail on Saturday but has since been released from custody.
