Woman Arrested in New York for Illegally Selling Weight-Loss Drugs on TikTok
New York woman faces charges for smuggling and selling misbranded weight-loss drugs through TikTok, despite not being licensed to administer medication.
In a recent case in New York, a woman has been charged with smuggling and distributing misbranded drugs after using TikTok to sell unauthorized weight-loss drugs, including products labeled Ozempic. The accused, Isis Navarro Reyes, 36, who also went by Beraly Navarro, is reported to have been unlicensed to administer medication.
Investigation and Arrest
The arrest of Ms. Reyes followed an investigation that involved an undercover officer who made contact with her after seeing a TikTok video in which she demonstrated how to inject what she claimed was Ozempic and shared her experience using the drug. The officer sent a message to a cellphone number listed by Ms. Reyes, leading to an exchange of messages that ultimately resulted in the officer purchasing Ozempic from her.
Unlawful Transaction
Despite not providing evidence of a prescription, the undercover officer sent a digital payment of $375 to a Zelle account in Ms. Reyes’s name. In return, the officer received a package containing the product labeled Ozempic. This drug, originally intended to treat diabetes, has gained popularity for weight loss, but its distribution and use without a prescription are illegal.
Ms. Reyes, also known as Beraly Navarro, faces serious charges for her involvement in the smuggling and distribution of these misbranded drugs. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of unauthorized drug sales on social media platforms and the legal consequences that follow.
