Woman Survives Avalanche in Grand Teton National Park
A woman skiing in Wyoming was caught in an avalanche in Grand Teton National Park, which carried her over 1,500 feet, according to park rangers. The incident occurred on Prospectors Mountain when the skier, a 29-year-old local woman, was skiing with four men near the top of Banana Couloir. An avalanche was triggered and swept them up, resulting in the men being carried down varying distances and the woman being carried over 1,500 feet. Although neither the woman nor the men became fully buried in the snow, the woman reportedly sustained serious injuries. The National Park Service has urged those planning to venture into the backcountry to refer to the daily avalanche forecast given the new snowfall in the Tetons. A rescue team airlifted the injured woman off the mountain, while the other members of the party were able to ski down on their own.
