Yemassee Residents Urged to Secure Homes After 43 Rhesus Macaques Escape Biomedical Facility

According to a spokesperson from Alpha Genesis, the escaped monkeys were too young to carry diseases, as they were not ready for testing. Police and Alpha Genesis officials stressed the importance of not approaching the monkeys and advised the public to immediately contact 911 if they spotted any of the primates roaming in their vicinity.

In an effort tolocate the vanishing monkeys, traps were set up in the area and policereportedly used thermal imaging cameras to assist in the search. The YPD provided an update at 1 p.m. the same day, stating that they had located the primates and were trying to entice them with food.
