Families Abandon Lawsuits Against AstraZeneca Over Rare Vaccine Side Effect After Legal Setback
Families drop lawsuits against AstraZeneca over Covid vaccine side effects, facing slim chance of success due to warning leaflet.
After being informed that their chances of winning a lawsuit against AstraZeneca were slim, families who lost loved ones due to the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine have decided to withdraw their legal claims. A leaflet issued during the pandemic warned of a rare side effect related to the vaccine, potentially protecting the pharmaceutical firm against lawsuits.
Legal Battle Dropped by 12 Families
A total of 12 families have opted out of the legal action, concluding that their claims were unlikely to succeed due to the presence of a warning about blood clots on patient safety leaflets issued after April 7, 2021. However, more than 50 families are persisting with their lawsuits against the pharmaceutical giant in the High Court as their vaccines were administered before the warning was provided.
Inadequate Compensation
Gareth Eve, whose wife, Lisa Shaw, passed away in May 2021 after receiving the vaccine, expressed his dissatisfaction with the £120,000 compensation offered by the government. He highlighted the need for ministers and the drug company to engage in a dialogue with affected families, emphasizing their moral responsibility in the matter.
Evidence of Vaccine Effectiveness
Independent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine in combating the pandemic, contributing to the preservation of over six million lives globally during its first year of distribution. Furthermore, the World Health Organisation confirmed the safety and efficacy of the vaccine for individuals aged 18 and above, labeling the adverse effect that prompted legal action as "very rare."
Class Action Lawsuit
A class action lawsuit has been filed against AstraZeneca, alleging that its vaccine, developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford, resulted in fatalities and severe injuries in numerous instances. The pharmaceutical company is contesting these claims, while the government has provided indemnity against legal action but has refrained from intervening thus far.
Persistent Pursuit of Justice
Despite facing legal hurdles, families affected by vaccine-related deaths and injuries remain resolute in their pursuit of justice. They are resolute in ensuring that every affected family, regardless of the timing of the vaccine's adverse effects, receives the justice they deserve.
