Eye-Witness Account
Around 7 a.m., several individuals gathered at the South Pointe Park marina boardwalk and were met with the startling sight of a submerged dark-colored car with its trunk open in the Atlantic Ocean. The event was captured in a video shared on Facebook by Andres Saion, who described hearing a loud crash from his apartment and rushing to his balcony to witness the unfolding scene. Saion promptly contacted 911 upon spotting the car in the water, expressing concern for potential occupants.
Emergency Response
Upon the arrival of fire rescue personnel, efforts were made to determine if anyone was inside the submerged vehicle. A woman and her daughter, who were in the vicinity at the time, reported observing the car speeding down the boardwalk. It was later revealed that the driver had been intoxicated and had mistakenly driven onto the boardwalk, believing it to be a road.
Police Intervention
The video footage captured the drenched driver sitting on a sidewalk, following which police conducted a field sobriety test. The test showed the driver struggling and stumbling, prompting law enforcement to take him into custody. The emotional state of the driver during the arrest was evident as he appeared to be in tears.
