Democrats to Pour $160 Million into State Legislative Races, Shaping November Elections
Big money is flowing into small state races, with Democrats set to spend over $160 million on legislative battles.
Today, June 12, we will take an in-depth look at the considerable financial investments made by the Democratic party in state legislative races across the country. While these races often go unnoticed, they play a crucial role in shaping the nation's political landscape. The influx of funds is poised to significantly influence the outcomes of these typically overlooked contests.
Big Money in Small Races
The Democratic party is gearing up to pour substantial resources into state house and senate elections, with a projected expenditure reaching nine figures. The States Project, a Democratic-aligned group, has revealed plans to allocate $70 million to legislative battles in nine states. This move represents one of the largest investments in such races by a single outside Democratic-leaning group in recent history.
The allocated funds are intended to be channeled directly to candidates and groups at the grassroots level. This approach empowers these entities to determine the most effective employment of the financial resources based on their local insights and requirements.
In addition to the $70 million commitment from The States Project, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has previously announced a $60 million target to support state legislative candidates, while the aligned group Forward Majority has pledged $35 million. This cumulative financial backing is expected to surpass $160 million, underscoring the significant investment in Democratic state legislative races.
