Devastating Wildfire Destroys Mazen Sheikhly's 20-Acre Home in Santa Ana Mountains
Mazen Sheikhly returned home after evacuation to find his house and belongings completely destroyed by the Airport fire in California.
Mazen Sheikhly felt an ashen weight in his heart as he maneuvered through the winding road leading to his cherished one-bedroom home located near El Cariso Village in California's Santa Ana Mountains, a place he had called home for nearly two decades. The uncertainty of discovering the aftermath of the raging Airport fire, which had wreaked havoc in Orange County and then crossed into Riverside County, was palpable.
The Impact of the Fire
The Airport fire had forced Mr. Sheikhly and thousands of others in the vicinity to evacuate. Now, as he approached his 20-acre property, renowned for its awe-inspiring vistas of Lake Elsinore, he was met with emptiness. "There was nothing left of the house," he recounted somberly. "Completely gone." The once-mighty structure, a symbol of the years spent building a home, now lay in ruins.
The toll extended beyond the physical structure. Mr. Sheikhly's cherished possessions were reduced to relics of their former selves. A 2000 Indian motorcycle, a prized possession he had lovingly maintained, was now a gutted hunk of metal. Precious photographs of his mother, along with designer clothes and jewelry accumulated during his tenure at Neiman Marcus, were turned into mere ashes, remnants of a life once lived.
