Fatal Shuttle Bus Accident at Honolulu Cruise Ship Terminal Leaves One Dead and Multiple Injured
Shuttle bus collision at Honolulu cruise terminal leaves one dead and multiple injured after driver confused gas pedal with brake.
On the morning of Friday, April 12, a devastating incident unfolded at the Honolulu cruise ship terminal, resulting in the death of one individual and leaving multiple others injured. The catastrophic event transpired when a shuttle bus tragically collided with pedestrians and concrete barriers.
According to official reports from the Honolulu Police Department, the collision was attributed to a grave error by the shuttle bus driver. Mistakenly pressing the gas pedal instead of the brake, the driver inadvertently set the bus in motion after dropping off passengers at Pier 2. As horrified bystanders looked on, the driver frantically attempted to regain control of the vehicle, only to inadvertently accelerate it further, leading to the tragic outcome.
Victims' Conditions
Regrettably, a 68-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics swiftly attended to the scene, transporting four individuals in their 50s and 60s to the hospital in serious condition, while a man in his 70s was taken to the hospital in a stable condition. Additionally, six other individuals received on-site medical evaluation and treatment from the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services team but declined further transportation to the hospital.
Law enforcement officials have stated that excessive speed does not appear to have played a role in the tragic incident. However, there is uncertainty surrounding the potential involvement of drugs or alcohol in the driver's actions, with investigations ongoing to ascertain all factors contributing to the devastating collision.
