Legacy High School Prepares for 2024 Opening, Overcoming Auditorium Delays and Creating Inspiring Space

Legacy High School is poised to embrace students for the 2024-25 academic year this Thursday, with only minor work remaining, primarily within the auditorium. The auditoriums at both new high schools faced delays attributed to supplier issues. Dr. Donny Lee, Wichita Falls ISD superintendent, expressed his relief on August 9 upon witnessing the resolution of most of the last few issues ahead of the school’s inaugural day. The campus boasts a striking wall adorned with a sizable Legacy Leopards mural, which has already become a favored spot for students to capture memories. Dr. Donny Lee shared his sentiments during a tour of the school, stating, “The team gets anxious on that last 1%. We had 99% done. We never had any doubts that it would get complete, we were just very anxious for it to be complete,".

"And then to see it all complete minus the auditorium, . . . it’s exciting, and it’s a relief to finally get these things done and welcome our kids," he said. Teachers moved into Legacy High School on Friday, August 9, 2024, and have been in the process of personalizing their teaching spaces. Despite the requirement for teachers to report by August 8, many made the effort to settle into their respective spaces early. The gym at Legacy High School boasts a capacity to accommodate 700 students, a testament to the school’s commitment to providing ample facilities for its students.

Attendees of the school’s orientation have also been given the opportunity to tour Legacy High School, allowing them to become acquainted with their upcoming educational institution. Dr. Donny Lee conveyed his enthusiasm for the school’s readiness to welcome students, along with his pride in the efforts that culminated in the campus’s preparedness. “It’s overwhelming from a sense of just how proud I am of our team, of our contractors and our architects all working together to see the finished product when two years ago, we were standing on a mound of dirt," Lee said. He further expressed awe at the transformation, stating, "And now we look up and see this amazing facility."
