Mother Abandons Child in Vacant House, 10 Years Later Emotional Reunion Leaves Country Stunned

A mother purportedly abandoned her 1-year-old, who was later adopted and became a successful model, refusing to meet her mother.

Upon thorough investigation, it was discovered that a Facebook page, "Jesus Light Of My Life", posted a heart-wrenching account of a mother who purportedly abandoned her 1-year-old child in a vacant house. The post shared a picture of an infant sleeping in a hospital bed and conveyed a story that, at first glance, seemed like an example of glurge – a story that distorts or ignores facts to convey a sentimental message. Despite initial skepticism, data uncovered by Snopes suggested that there was some truth to this tale. The photo raised questions about why the child was pictured in a hospital bed, as opposed to a safe crib.

The Viral Story Unveiled

Digging deeper, it became apparent that numerous Facebook posts echoed a similar narrative, prompting users to click on article links in the comments. These links redirected users to various websites, each hosting a longer version of the story. Notably, comedian and actor Karlous Miller shared a segment of the story on his Facebook page, reaching over 2.6 million followers.

The original post on the "Jesus Light Of My Life" page led to an article on teknolojibura.com, a site lacking author information and showing signs of hasty creation. The article, possibly translated from another language, recounted the harrowing tale of a one-year-old girl, named Liza, abandoned in Yaroslavl, Russia, ten years prior. It detailed her rescue from an abandoned house and subsequent adoption by a woman named Inna, who later nurtured her into a successful model in Russia.

The Story of Lisa Verbitskaya

On April 18, 2018, the Russian-language website for the Change One Life Charitable Foundation published an interview with Inna Sovkova, the woman who adopted the girl, now known as Lisa Verbitskaya. The interview shed light on how Inna found Lisa in a dire state in an abandoned house, and thereafter, adopted her, providing a nurturing environment for her to flourish. It also highlighted a televised encounter between Lisa, Inna, and Lisa's biological mother, presenting a complex reunion that garnered attention.

Unraveling the Photo Mystery

Subsequent research led to the revelation that the photo of the baby in the hospital bed, which accompanied the viral posts, was entirely unrelated to Lisa's story. A reverse-image search traced the photo to Vincent Bitaud, who captured the image in 2005. Notably, the photo appeared to be a mere attempt to capture a captivating moment of a sleeping baby, unrelated to the viral narrative. Further investigation into Bitaud's Flickr account provided additional context around the photo's origin and context.

The aforementioned findings serve to elucidate the complexities and intricacies surrounding viral stories and the importance of discerning factual accuracy before accepting and sharing such narratives.
