Morrie Markoff, a well-known supercentenarian blogger and scrap-metal sculptor, who was believed to be the oldest man in the United States, has passed away. He died on June 3 at the age of 110 at his home in downtown Los Angeles. His brain has been donated for research on super-aging.
People who live to be 110 or older are considered supercentenarians. The Gerontology Research Group, based in Los Angeles, lists more than 150 supercentenarians around the world.
A Remarkable Life
Mr. Markoff, born in New York City on January 11, 1914, joined the supercentenarian club this year. He was considered the oldest living man in the United States after the death of Francis Zouein in January, who lived to 113 years old.
Mr. Markoff had two strokes in recent weeks, according to his daughter, Judith Markoff Hansen, confirming his death.
