Real Estate Billionaire Plans Underwater Voyage to Titanic Wreck Site for Scientific Research
Real estate billionaire plans underwater voyage to Titanic shipwreck site in new submersible for research mission at 12,500 feet deep.

Ohio-based real estate billionaire Larry Connor, 74, is gearing up for an ambitious underwater expedition to the site of the Titanic shipwreck. The expedition aims to explore and conduct scientific research at the site, which is located off the coast of Newfoundland, approximately 12,500 feet under the sea.
After a tragic incident involving a submersible imploding on its approach to the sea floor, resulting in the loss of all five passengers on board, Connor reached out to Patrick Lahey, the co-founder of Triton Submarines. He urged Lahey to design a submarine capable of safely reaching the depths of the Titanic and conducting repeated missions.
The Submersible
Triton Submarines is currently in the process of developing a two-person submersible for the expedition, scheduled for the summer of 2026. This submersible will be specifically designed to withstand the extreme conditions at the Titanic site.
"Our mission is not just a trip to the Titanic," Mr. Connor emphasized. "It's a dedicated research expedition," he stated in a recent interview.
