Trump Rallies New York Voters, Gains Police Union Support Amid Controversial Policies Debate
Former President Trump garnered police union support in New York, emphasizing law enforcement backing and condemning anti-police policies.

Former President Trump drew significant support from law enforcement at a rally in Long Island, New York, where police officers expressed their backing for the Republican candidate following a second failed assassination attempt. The Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) President, Lou Civello, stated the union's endorsement was due to Trump's unwavering support for law enforcement.
Law Enforcement's Support for Trump
Lou Civello declared that the union's support for Trump was a clear choice due to what he termed as anti-police Democratic policies. He specifically pointed to policies such as the "defund the police" movement and leniency in criminal justice, resulting in the release of 42 convicted cop killers in the past seven years.
Trump's Support for Law Enforcement
Civello criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her past statements that were critical of law enforcement and her support for the "defund" movement. He contrasted this with Trump's support for the death penalty for those convicted of killing police officers, asserting that the former president was the only candidate to endorse such a measure.
Trump's Engagement with Law Enforcement
During the rally, Civello emphasized Trump's direct involvement in addressing gang violence, specifically citing Trump's engagement with the MS-13 gang cases that had plagued Long Island. Civello recounted the appalling nature of the gang's crimes, portraying them as devoid of any regard for human life.
Police Organization's Endorsement of Trump
The Suffolk County PBA was the first police organization in New York to endorse Trump for the presidency. The PBA organized a tailgate event before the rally, showcasing their support for the former president. The police commissioner in Nassau County, where the rally took place, assured attendees that the venue would be exceptionally secure during the event.
Voter Base and Show of Support
The rally attracted thousands of supporters who showed up hours ahead of schedule for a chance to enter the venue, which has a capacity of 18,000 seats.
