The accident took place on September 4 at 7:24 a.m., near the intersection of Ray Boulevard and Charles Place. According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office, the child was struck by the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
Despite immediate life-saving measures attempted by the driver and law enforcement, the child was pronounced dead at Munson Medical Center. The police reported that speed, alcohol, and drugs were not contributing factors to the incident, as determined by the initial investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Team and a Michigan State Police accident investigator.
The mobile home park employs stop signs and speed bumps throughout many of its roads to ensure drivers reduce speed. However, it was noted that the shorter north-south roads, such as Charles Place where the crash occurred, lack speed bumps.
