Carolina Panthers release former All-Pro running back Tarik Cohen
Carolina Panthers release former All-Pro running back Tarik Cohen, facing setbacks due to injuries, after joining in 2023 for NFL comeback.
After only eight months since signing a new contract with the Carolina Panthers, former All-Pro running back Tarik Cohen has been released from the team. The decision was reported by CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones.
Tarik Cohen, 28, joined the Panthers' practice squad in September 2023 and spent the entire 2023 season with the scout team. Despite signing a new contract with the Panthers in January 2024, Cohen's release indicates a setback in his attempts to revive his NFL career. He last played an official NFL snap in the 2020 season.
Injury Setbacks
Cohen's release follows a series of setbacks, starting with a season-ending injury in 2020 where he suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and leg fracture, which limited him to just three games. He then missed the entire 2021 season in recovery before being released by the Chicago Bears in March 2022. His struggles continued as he suffered a torn Achilles in 2022, forcing him to sit out the entire season.
Reinforcements for Panthers
The Panthers have recently strengthened their running back group by adding Jonathon Brooks through the draft and signing Rashaad Penny in free agency. These additions aim to complement returning ball carriers Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard.
