Florida Mother Discovers AirTag Tracking Son in Shoe in Bizarre Mix-Up
Florida mom discovers AirTag in son's shoe, fearing tracking; relieved to find mix-up with another child's shoes.
After a Florida mother found an unknown AirTag in her son's shoe, she was left stunned and worried. Initially calling it "every mother’s worst nightmare," Jackie Giurleo soon unraveled the mystery after involving law enforcement.
Uncovering the Mystery
Jackie Giurleo began receiving alerts about places her son had visited, despite not owning any AirTags herself. It was during a Christmas parade on Satellite Beach when she made the alarming discovery in a quarter-sized hole bored into her son's shoe. The realization that the device had been tracking him for nearly a month left her heartbroken.
A Mother's Scare
Seven-year-old Aidan was oblivious to the AirTag's presence in his shoe during his travels to various places. As Giurleo's knees gave out in shock, she took the device to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, which subsequently subpoenaed Apple for the owner's details.
A Bizarre Twist
The investigation led to an unexpected turn when it was revealed that her son had accidentally switched shoes with another boy at a Christmas parade bounce house. It turned out that the other child, visiting from Oklahoma, had an AirTag attached to his shoe by his parents to track him in case of an emergency.
Relief and Lessons Learned
Thankfully, it was a case of misunderstanding rather than a more nefarious intent. Giurleo expressed her relief, stating that she had learned from the incident and might consider using AirTags herself for tracking kids in crowded places.
