Formula 1 Drivers Discuss the Challenges of Monaco Grand Prix and Its Iconic Status

Despite the general consensus that Monaco deserves its place in the Formula 1 calendar, there are debates about the excitement it offers during the race.

The narrow track in Monaco poses a significant challenge for Grand Prix drivers. The size of the cars and the limited space make overtaking extremely difficult. In the Formula E race held in April, the smaller cars allowed for nearly 200 overtakes, while the Grand Prix only saw 22 overtakes last year, resulting in a less dynamic race.

Evolution of Cars

Over the past 30 years, cars have grown significantly in size, becoming three feet longer and 600 pounds heavier. This evolution has made maneuvering through the tight streets of Monaco increasingly challenging for drivers.

Despite its challenges, Monaco remains an iconic race. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, a Monégasque himself, expressed his bias towards Monaco, citing it as the race that ignited his dream of becoming a Formula 1 driver.
