Israeli American Council Leader Calls for Jewish Mobilization at U.C.L.A. Rally
Israeli diaspora leader Elan Carr vows to reclaim campuses from pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian clashes at U.C.L.A. rally.
During a rally at the University of California, Los Angeles, on the 12th of August, Elan Carr, leader of an Israeli diaspora group, addressed a gathering of over 1,000 demonstrators, marking the beginning of Jewish mobilization at universities.
Mr. Carr, who serves as the chief executive of the Israeli American Council, expressed determination, stating, "We will take back our streets. We will take back our campuses from Columbia University to U.C.L.A. and everywhere in between."
Incidents and Unrest
The rally featured the singing of the U.S. and Israeli national anthems, prayers, and speeches by Jewish leaders, along with Israeli pop songs. However, the event took a tumultuous turn as pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian protesters clashed, resulting in fights breaking out after breaching a barrier set up by the university to separate the two sides.
This marked the commencement of a violent phase of campus unrest. Subsequently, counter demonstrators stormed the pro-Palestinian encampment at U.C.L.A., leading to clashes through Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.
