Jordan Whitehead Returns to Tampa Bay Buccaneers After Stint with New York Jets
Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-sign safety Jordan Whitehead after a brief stint with the New York Jets, securing him with a two-year, $9 million contract. General Manager Licht expressed regret over releasing him earlier.
After a brief tenure with the New York Jets, safety Jordan Whitehead has rejoined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that originally drafted him. This reunion marks a significant moment for the Buccaneers as they secure the return of a valued player.
A New Chapter Begins
Back in 2018, the Bucs selected Whitehead in the fourth round of the draft, and he subsequently spent four years demonstrating his skills and commitment to the team. However, due to free agency, Whitehead departed from the Bucs. Nevertheless, in the current offseason, the team successfully reacquired him, signing a favorable two-year, $9 million contract.
Reflecting on the past, Tampa Bay General Manager Jason Licht acknowledged that letting Whitehead go in 2022 was a decision driven by financial constraints. However, he openly admitted that it was an immediate regret, recognizing the loss of a talented player. Licht expressed his satisfaction in rectifying this decision by bringing Whitehead back to the Buccaneers.
A Resounding Impact
Looking ahead, the Buccaneers are eager to witness Whitehead's contributions on the field. With 59 games played, including 55 starts and a notable record of five interceptions and 292 combined tackles during his time with the Bucs, Whitehead has proven himself as a valuable asset. His recent two-season stint with the Jets further showcased his capabilities, with 34 starts, six interceptions, and 186 combined tackles.
As the Buccaneers prepare for the upcoming season, the return of Jordan Whitehead is poised to make a significant impact, elevating the team's defensive prowess and overall performance.
