Kansas City Chiefs Release Isaiah Buggs After Second Arrest: NFL Media Reports
Isaiah Buggs released by Kansas City Chiefs after second arrest this offseason for domestic violence and burglary charges in Alabama.
Following recent legal issues, the Kansas City Chiefs have made the decision to release 27-year-old defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, as reported by NFL Media.
Details of Buggs' Arrest
Isaiah Buggs was arrested for the second time this offseason and is currently in jail facing domestic violence and burglary charges stemming from an alleged incident in Alabama earlier this month. The most recent arrest occurred on June 16, where court documents alleged that Buggs unlawfully entered a woman's apartment and dragged the mother of his child down the stairs with the intent to commit a crime.
This recent arrest came shortly after Buggs turned himself in on misdemeanor charges of alleged animal cruelty. His agent, Trey Robinson, argued that Buggs was the victim of a "subversive campaign" to force the closure of his Tuscaloosa-based business.
Professional Career and Team History
Buggs, originally drafted in the sixth round out of Alabama in 2019, recently joined the Chiefs in January as a member of the practice squad. Despite signing a new futures contract in February, he had not yet appeared in a game for Kansas City. Prior to his time with the Chiefs, Buggs played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions, accumulating a total of 56 games as a reserve lineman.
Other Legal Issues Within the Team
Buggs is not the only Chiefs player facing legal troubles this offseason, as wide receiver Rashee Rice is still subject to NFL discipline after a high-speed car crash in March that resulted in multiple criminal charges.
