Kevin Magnussen Embarks on New Racing Journey with BMW M Motorsport's L.M.D.h. Program

The Rolex 24 at Daytona represents an important transition for Kevin Magnussen, who embarks on a fresh journey in the world of racing. The seasoned driver, known for his extensive experience in over 180 Formula 1 Grands Prix, has officially aligned himself with BMW M Motorsport’s L.M.D.h. program, focusing on the Le Mans Daytona hybrid category in sports cars. Expressing enthusiasm for this new chapter, Magnussen stated, “It’s good to be racing; I’m happy to be going back to sports car racing.”

A Shift in Focus

Previously, Magnussen spent a significant portion of his Formula 1 career with Haas, but in July, the team announced plans to replace him for the 2025 season. Considering a potential move to the IndyCar Series, Magnussen ultimately opted for a different path, citing the challenge of relocating his family to the United States as a primary concern. Instead, he made the strategic decision to commit to sports cars, participating in the F.I.A. World Endurance Championship and three rounds of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, with the prestigious Daytona race on the agenda.

Family Ties in Racing

The transition to sports cars is not uncharted territory for Magnussen, as he comes from a family deeply rooted in racing. His father, Jan, boasts an impressive background in sports car competition, featuring four class wins at Le Mans and one at Daytona. Kevin, too, brings valuable experience to the table, having participated in the IMSA series with Cadillac from 2021 to 2022, including a stint at Daytona, during a prior hiatus from Formula 1. As he embarks on this new venture, Magnussen aims to build on his existing knowledge while embracing the challenges and excitement that sports car racing has to offer.
