Mikey Varas to coach USMNT's September games as Pochettino's transition gets underway

Instead, former U-20 head coach Mikey Varas is set to lead the team in matches against Canada and New Zealand, both of which will be held in the United States. Varas, who achieved success by winning the U-20 Concacaf Championship and leading the team to a quarterfinal exit in the 2023 U-20 World Cup, has been elevated to the role of interim coach. His experience also includes serving as an assistant to Berhalter during Copa America.

Mauricio Pochettino faces a significant challenge as he prepares to assume the head coach position, especially with the looming 2026 World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
